What is Magnet Therapy?

What is Magnet Therapy?

Our bodies are regulated by electromagnetic signals and each cell in our body has an electrical state. Traditional Chinese Medicine is based around the idea of “Qi,” the balance of energy in your body.

Qi is the balance of two opposing energies, Yin and Yang. Yin is nourishing, moistening, and cooling whereas Yang is the energetic, hot and motivational energy.

Magnet therapy is the use of magnets on acupressure points throughout the body to balance your yin and yang. This is a non-invasive treatment option that has been used for centuries to help with a variety of health issues:

  • Addictions
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Blood Circulation
  • Cancer
  • Children’s health problems (bed-wetting, behavioral disorders)
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Diabetes
  • Gastrointestinal problems (colitis, constipation, diverticulitis, parasites, hiatal hernia, indigestion and nausea, irritable bowel syndrome)
  • Heart diseases
  • Inflammation
  • Men’s health problems (benign prostatic hypertrophy, impotence)
  • Mental and emotional problems
  • Pain and injuries
  • Respiratory problems (asthma, bronchitis, colds and sinusitis, lung infections)
  • Skin problems (boils, burns, blisters, insect stings, scalp infections, warts and moles, sunburn)
  • Sleep disorders
  • Women’s health problems (breast soreness, yeast infections, menstrual problems, menopausal discomforts, osteoporosis, cystitis)

WHY MAGNETS ARE IMPORTANT TO OUR HEALTH

The human central nervous system is a direct current circuit where magnetic fields are naturally generated when nerve impulses travel from neurons (the electromagnetic positive) via their axons (the electromagnetic negative) to the rest of the body. A fully functioning human body constantly produces internal magnetic fields but since around 30% of the body's energy comes from outside, an external source of magnetic energy is necessary.

Magnets are especially important when the body is stressed or injured but cannot accelarate self-healing by generating and supplying enough negative magnetic energy to the site of injury (because of a weakened immune system, for example). Subsequently, applying a negative magnetic field generated by a suitable magnet can help the body utilise its own recuperative capacities and speed up recovery.

BEWARE OF THE MAGNETIC FIELD DEFICIENCY SYNDROME

An external supply of magnetic energy is important for optimum health. Our main natural source is the Earth’s own magnetic field. However this is being diminished by modern technology such as cars, trains and metal buildings which absorb this energy. Subsequently this reduction in the strength of Earth’s magnetism is leading to widespread health imbalances which together make up the ‘magnetic field deficiency syndrome’. The symptoms include: stiffness in the back, neck and shoulders; headaches and heaviness of the head; insomnia; dizziness; chest pains; habitual constipation and general lassitude.

NEGATIVE MAGNETIC ENERGY – Calms the neurons, relieves stress The negative pole on a magnet (‘North’, marked in green) encourages rest in the body. When the body is magnetised through a negative magnetic field a calming effect is generated which relaxes the neurons, normalises the body's systems and promotes relaxation and sleep.

When the magnet’s gauss (strength) is sufficiently high, it can induce general anaesthesia. For this reason negative magnetic fields have been successfully used in the control of seizures, psychosis, neurosis, movement disorders and addictive withdrawal.

Scientific research has uncovered that the body supplies negative electromagnetic energy to the site of injury as a means of self-healing. This magnetic energy functions to calm the affected area where positive electromagnetic energy initially occurred at the time of trauma. Depending on the injury, the negative magnetic field relieves inflammation, swelling or other symptoms by counteracting the stressor. It can relieve pain by replacing acid-hypoxia (a state of high acidity and low oxygen) with alkaline-hyperoxia - low acidity and high oxygen state most conducive to body’s healing.

POSITIVE MAGNETIC ENERGY – Excites the neurons, stresses the body The positive (‘South’, marked in red) pole on a magnet can over-excite the body and even disrupt its functioning. A negative magnetic field stimulates the cells and if sufficiently strong can evoke seizures and instantly cause psychosis in people predisposed to such conditions. Prolonged exposure to a positive pole can interfere with the body’s metabolic functioning, decrease oxygen in cells and produce acidity. A positive magnetic field can relieve pain by increasing the level of endorphins which are the body’s own painkillers.

HOW MAGNETS WORK WITH OUR BODIES

Magnets are non-invasive but the magnetic fields they generate can penetrate the whole body and affect any organ. The health benefits of magnets stem from the chemical reactions which the body produces when exposed to magnetic fields. These reactions occur because the human body is naturally magnetic. The neurons, the pineal gland (located inside the brain) and ethmoid magnetic organ (the bone behind the nose) contain clusters of iron and manganese which can be magnetised.

MAGNETS AS PART OF HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AND THERAPY

A negative magnetic field is widely used in therapy because its relaxing effect can promote the body's own calming and healing processes. However, the over-stimulation which the positive magnetic field can generate can also be useful in some cases. For example, a positive magnetic field can be applied in the morning to provide the body with a natural burst of energy by stimulating the production of catabolic hormones inside (expose each adrenal gland to a positive magnetic field for 3-5 minutes).

In cases of spinal cord injury, and conditions such as multiple sclerosis, where the body's neurons need to be stimulated into functioning, a positive magnetic field can be used to provide necessary neural excitement. The magnet’s positive pole can be applied to the symptomatic area in short intervals of 3 minutes when used as part of a therapeutic exercise where the patient practices using the affected parts of the body. This 30-minute exercise must be concluded with the application of the magnets’ negative pole over the same area.

Magnetic fields should be applied under medical supervision, especially when a positive magnetic field is meant to be used on a patient’s head. Since positive magnetic energy excites the neurons it can exacerbate seizures, mental illness and infections. Unless there is absolute certainty that the patient has no potential for such conditions, positive magnetic fields should be completely avoided. Other precautions must also be followed when using magnet therapy. Always consult a qualified medical practitioner.

MAGNETS AS PART OF OUR MEDICAL WORLD

Safe and accurate diagnostic technology is crucial in our efforts to not only cure diseases but survive. Magnetic fields are now the established means of safe and accurate diagnosis. For example, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is replacing X-rays diagnosis which used a type of radiation linked to cancer. Use of medical X-rays has been claimed to cause around 75% of breast cancer.

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is now replacing lectroencephalography (EEG) as the more precise technique for recording human brain activity.

Biomagnetic Therapy, Ancient Wisdom, Modern Use

Today, many people believe that certain places on Earth, such as Lourdes, France, and Sedona, Arizona, owe their healing powers to high level of Bio-magnetic energy. The Chinese have referred to this energy as “Chi”, the Japanese as “Ki” and even the Native Americans referred to it as “Orenda”. Reiki Practitioners refer to the healing powers of the Universal Life Force to describe this energy field. Clinical studies and personal evidence suggests that people experience a beneficial effect of exposure to magnetic energy. Hundreds of studies are available worldwide on fixed and pulsed magnetic therapy. Evidence shows that it stimulates and enhances the body’s natural healing process. Studies suggest that Electro-Magnetic Energy is even more beneficial than stationary magnets. The father of modern medicine and Greek Philosopher Hippocrates wrote several thousand years ago, “The natural force within each of us is the greatest healer of all.”

Electrical activity in the body is essential. Our bodies need the energy provided by free electrons. We usually get them from food, water, air we breath. These “free” electrons, [Chi, Ki, Orenda, Universal Life Force] are the catalyst, the life force that burns oxygen in the cells. It is believed that magnetic energy field and Bio-magnetic energy levels in the body determine its resistance to “dis-ease” (disease) and aging. The body behaves like a battery. It can be charged and discharged and even drained of energy. Most “dis-ease” (disease), from the common cold to cancer can manifest itself in a run down body, one that is weak and low in energy. The food, water and air that we consume everyday unfortunately may not have the levels of electrons necessary for us to maintain a health and fully charged body.

Life developed under the influence of the earth’s magnetic field. It logically follows that magnetism and the interference with the body’s electromagnetic activity play such a major role in health and in disease.

The ancient Greeks discovered lodestone, a magnetic rock that had healing properties. The early Chinese recorded the use of magnets in medical literature. Medical use of magnets has been reported throughout the ages and in recent years, has been the subject of worldwide interest.

Although they may seem magical in their capacity to heal, magnets are not magic. Their function is very simple. Magnetotherapy assists the body to regain its self healing electromagnetic balance naturally. The body, each organ and each cell of every organ is influenced by electromagnetism. Cell regulation, tissue function and life are controlled by electromagnetic currents.

Lack of magnetism, as outlined by Dr. Nakahowa in his classic paper “Magnetic Deficiency Syndrome”, may cause stress mental disorders, headaches, arthritis, muscle pain, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, allergies, insomnia, inflammation, circulatory problems, bowel disorders and many other degenerative problems afflicting people today.

Universal Cure-All? In the search for a universal cure-all, none fits the description nearly as well as magnetic energy therapy. The application of magnets has given a proven pain relief in seven out of 10 users - as good or better than orthodox medicine. Magnetotherapy is far less expensive and has no dangerous side effects often seen with prescription drugs; however, proper advice and care should be taken when using strong or large magnets about the head. Treatment with magnets is not addictive and does not interfere with other therapies, but it should not be used if a pacemaker or defibrillator is worn.

Researchers have stated magnetic field therapy rebalances altered metabolic functions that cause pain; edema (tissue swelling); excess acid in the tissues; and lack of oxygen in the cells thereby initiating tissue healing and pain relief. Skin calcification, the cause of skin aging and wrinkles, disappear. Joint mobility increases and muscles become more flexible. Digestion and elimination improve, prostates shrink and kidneys eliminate body wastes more effectively. Mental function increases, energy levels go up and sleep is better. Tests have shown that organisms placed under a magnetic field live longer.

Because it potentiates the body’s free radical scavenger and antioxidant system, magnetotherapy is reported to be valuable in counteracting degenerative processes causing heart and circulatory diseases, arthritis and auto immune illness, as well as neuro degenerative and allergic afflictions.

Natural Pain Relief Drinking magnetized water is said to impart many similar benefits. Wearing back, neck or joint supports with permanent magnets imbedded in the material often relieves painful conditions. Treatment of discomfort from strains and arthritis with low frequency pulsating magnetic fields created by tiny portable generators may be as effective as larger ultrasound units.

Stress causes hundreds of diseases; it can be reduced by using magnets day or night. Sleeping on magnetic mattress pads can improve the quality of sleep and eliminate morning stiffness. Nighttime magnetic field therapy has a calming and sleep inducing effect on the brain and body due to stimulating production of the hormone melatonin. Melatonin is anti stressful, anti aging and anti infectious.

Magnetic Therapy may often be used as a first line of treatment for pain and to promote healing. This is not to suggest that there is no place for standard prescription drugs, but that many distressing conditions yield to magnets. If magnets don’t help, it’s important that you visit your doctor.

About Magnetic Healing / Magnetic Therapy

Magnets themselves do not heal anything--they only stimulate the body to heal itself. Magnetics merely allow body cells to exist at their optimum level.

Magnetic treatment has been shown to decrease healing time by half or more.

The specific factors known to be involved in magnetic healing are:
  1. Increased blood flow with increased oxygen carrying capacity
  2. Improved circulation reduces cholesterol and calcium deposits in blood vessels,
  3. Enzyme activities and hormone percentages are stabilized
  4. The arid-base balance of all body fluids is maintained at ideal levels
  5. Automatic nerve function is normalized and internal organs regain their proper function
  6. Resistance to disease is enhanced by invigorating the immune system with magnetic waves
  7. Magnetic waves impact the electrons inside body cells, generating warmth, which in turn reduces pain and swelling in muscles and joints.

Professional tour golfers, the majority of senior professional tour golfers, professional football players, baseball players and scores of professional athletes in every sport are greatly increasing their performance with magnetic therapy.

Not only does magnetic field therapy aid in the recovery, but it allows these conditions to heal better, more quickly and with less scar tissue. Magnetic treatment has been shown in clinical studies to increase healing time by half or more.

Magnetic energy attracts iron and other electrically charged blood particles to the area of discomfort or pain. The blood is drawn towards the magnet at an accelerated pace, which in turn, fully oxygenates the blood cells. This enriched blood supply and enhanced circulation causes blood vessels to dilate allowing the injured tissue to receive additional oxygen and nutrients, thus providing healing.

From clinical tests at M.I.T., the University of Kentucky, and Barry University, magnetic technology was scientifically proven to generate these benefits:
  • Enhanced pain relief
  • Accelerated healing
  • Increased range of motion
  • Improved circulation
  • Quicker recover from training
